I am enjoying summer! I WAS enjoying summer.

Well, I have to tell you it's been a great few months of lying in the sun, catching rays, and relaxing.
Or, should I say, it  WAS a great few months of relaxing!  For me, the relaxing part has been over now for
several weeks as the good Dr. decided it was time for me to have more responsibiities!  (If you have a
boss I'm sure you can commiserate--you do a good job and always meet your deadlines, and, what happens?
You get more things to do and more headaches!)  My headache came in the form of a furry male rascal named
Frankie!  I'm almost embarassed to admit he's a Golden Retriever, as I am; however, he does not exhibit any
of the dignity, pride, and restraint that we have come to expect in a Golden.  I overheard some of the staff call
him my "brother"--all I can say is "Oh, brother!"

Frankie does not respect my seniority or superiority.  At least, with the office cats I can usually expect a certain
aloofness if not respect.  Frankie steals my toys, lays in my favorite spot in Dr.'s office, and, worst of all, sometimes gets to lick Dr. Amanda's lunch dish!

Please stop in and try to tire him out--I would be one appreciative Golden if you would!

Happy Spring!

I'm sorry I haven't blogged lately; the Wintergreen has been busy and so have I keeping the unruly office pets in order!

I promise to post some new pictures of myself as soon as I can snag a human with a camera!  In the meantime, let me take this opportunity to remind all of our Wintergreen families that this is a very important time of year for preventive maintenance!  Warm weather means more problems with BUGS!  Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and (EW!) parasites all can cause increased annoyances and even serious injuries to your furry family member!  I'm very fortunate because I practically LIVE here and the Doctors and Techs make sure I am all caught up with my shots.  I know it's hard to find the time, but please help my animal friends who depend on you to keep them healthy and feeling fine!

For instance, take my friends Webe and Mokey--their Mom brought them in yesterday for a check-up that included lepto virus, lyme, and rabies shots, heartworm tests (negative, thank goodness!), some special gel to keep the pug nose lubricated, and a senior wellness check-up for Mokey!  They can now enjoy the warm weather activities knowing they are well-protected and healthy.  Mom found out that one of Webe's knees "pops out" which Dr. Amanda said could cause some arthritis problems in the future!  That was a surprise, but Dr. A said Webe can still jump--no harm in that!  Mom and furry friends said that the doctors and techs were super-friendly and made the visit fun and the checkups give real peace of mind!

If your pets don't need a checkup yet, you may still want to stop into the office for a quick peek at the new stuff for sale!  We have candles specially formulated to clean the air of unpleasant odors.  I'm trying not to be offended by the inference on the label that the candles are good for "pet odors".  Along the same line are the car air fresheners--these and many of the special products sold at Wintergreen go to raise money for Miss Bonnie's favorite charity--the Morris Foundation! (More on that later.)

Well, it's about time for me to find a ray of sunshine for my afternoon nap!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Just a little note today to let you know of some things near and dear to my heart!

First of all, if you haven't stopped by the Office lately, you are missing out on some beautiful new accessories for your favorite pet!  Miss Sarah and Miss Lauren ordered the most handsome leashes, collars, etc. in many assorted designs and colors!  If your pets are like me, they like to express themselves through their accessories--don't forget, well-dressed is best!

Also, and, more importantly, we have a tree in the Office.  Well, it's just a branch, but it's special.  This branch displays treats and beach glass necklaces that can be yours for a small donation ($1 or $3) to Wintergreen's 2009 Pet Charity Fundraiser--PAWS FEST to benefit the Morris Cancer Research Center.  If everyone who stops in the office helps, we're sure to make a difference!

The major Wintergreen PAWS FEST fundraising event will be scheduled sometime in August--I will keep you posted on the details!

Please stop by and help us help sick animals by supporting this important event now with your donation!

Thank you in advance from all of us at Wintergreen!

Happy New Year!  I just wanted to update you on some delicious news!  The Wintergreen Animal Hospital now sells "Greenies" treats right at the front desk!  They are dental chews that are so tasty, and help to keep my teeth nice and clean and strong!

By the way, the good doctors and staff here do routine pet dental cleanings, too!  Believe it or not, we dogs and cats need proper dental care so our teeth will last--I haven't heard of dentures for pets, but I don't think I would want them anyway.

Call me at 814.825.6735 for more information on your pet's dental health needs!

Woof!  I am Hannah, Dr. John's and Dr. Deb's very well-mannered, beautiful, and dignified golden retriever. I'm not bragging, just stating the facts.

I carpool with Dr. John to the Wintergreen Animal Hospital almost every day.  I don't get many days off, but it's work I enjoy, and you know how good you feel when you're needed.  While I am at the hospital, I spend the majority of my day keeping all the hospital's resident pets under control.

First, there's a big orange cat name Joshua.  He thinks he owns the place and I let him believe that he does. We have an understanding--I leave him alone and he steers clear of me!  One strange thing about Joshua is that when he gets fed, the staff puts a big rock in his dish so he doesn't eat fast and throw up.  Not very dignified, I know! You can usually find "Shua" or "Bert" or "Boyfriend" laying all over the reception desk.  Lazy thing!  (Did I say that out loud?)

That's another thing about this place, it seems everyone has at least 2 or 3 names.  Take me, for instance, my formal name is Hannah, but I also answer to "Nanners", "Nan", and the sound of the Bil-Jac treat box.  I maintain my dignity and control even when Dr. Amanda gives me her spaghetti lunch dish to lick!  (I love italian food!)

Another resident feline (that's "cat" to you lay people) is a black cat named Gabriel James, or "Gabe James" or "Gabe".  He maintains a low profile and tries not to call too much attention to himself--fine with me, I have enough to deal with!

Finally, there's Clee, a little orange kitten who drinks a ridiculous amount of water!  I guess he has a "condition" that makes him thirsty.  I think Clee's original name is "Cleo", but now everyone calls him "Clee Bird" or just "Bird".  Imagine that! A cat named "Bird"!? Personally,  I call him "Fish" because of the water thing.

My most important job at Wintergreen is to boost morale and provide comfort therapy to the doctors and staff that work there.  They are a caring, hard-working bunch and I love them!  But, sometimes, they are stressed or sad and that's where I come in, carrying around my frisbee or ball so someone will throw it for me--I can sometimes get a smile that way, and sometimes, if I'm very lucky, I can even get a Bil-Jac treat!

I look forward to each day at the Wintergreen Animal Hospital.  There's always something going on.  I hope you enjoy my blog about the everyday happenings around here!  'Til next time,

Hannah
